About Flowerly
“Flowerly is my love letter to the amazing people I’ve met in this life who live by creating beauty in this world. Whether if it’s to point out the natural beauty of a sunset, do good works, or simply be their hilarious/talented/courageous/dignified selves, I’ve continuously been lifted up by these positive influences.
Their influence, for instance, gave me courage to give up my 9-5 practicing law. Actually, the time I spent was way more than that. In any case, it took some time but I eventually admitted to myself that even though a steady income working for a firm made me feel secure, the work didn’t make me happy. After years of asking myself, “Now what?”, it came to me one day that the thing that made me happy was literally in front of me all along — the garden.
After that realization, floods of memories came back. Helping my father plant pansies when I was six. Gifting a bouquet of gladiolas I picked myself to my 4th grade teacher. Running through a neighbor’s orange grove. Spending all my allowance at Home Depot to plant tomatoes and flowers. Painstakingly digging holes through heavy clay soil to plant those tomatoes and flowers.
Being the daughter of immigrants, coming to America to become a farmer is simply not what you do. It’s in fact, it’s a sure way to get your parents to say, “I’m disappointed in you”.
For one, it’s not an easy life. In fact, my grandparents were farmers from China who immigrated to Thailand due to a drought. It’s also not a glamorous life. I still remember being a teenager and having my mom tell me that her dream for me was to be able to wear beautiful clothes when I grew up. I have definitely traded my heels and suits for mud boots and overalls.
Even still, we cannot deny ourselves what makes us truly happy. It’s what makes us human.
Flowerly’s mission is very simple — create beauty through flowers. That beauty lies in the flowers themselves, of course. But I also like to think of beauty in broader terms like making someone’s face light up, helping to create good memories for events, making the local bees and wildlife a little happier through responsible farming practices, and taking care of the local economy by sourcing locally from my own farm.
It is the cumulation of small good acts and small happy moments that I think helps us see the beauty in this world.
Thank you for choosing Flowerly. Thank you for choosing to see the beauty. May we continue to create beauty in this world together.”
